Quentin Talus
Smuggler, Leader of the Gutter Rats
Quentin first came to Gregos Alpha during the Nexonian Trial of Succession, recognizing the planet’s value as a layover and rest stop for smuggling goods throughout the Antares Reach. After the war’s conclusion, he capitalized on the influx of refugees and orphans streaming into the region, contracting with Drake and the Nexonian enclave to provide transport for basic goods and necessities. That contract was quickly terminated when Drake discovered Quentin’s side business of pilfering and selling exorbitantly marked-up goods intended for the dislocated masses.
In the years that followed, Quentin continued his illicit activities, using Gregos Alpha as a base of operations and the local Dry Dock bar as a regular meetup location. After losing a particularly valuable heist to a mutinous crew, he turned to solo freelance activities until realizing the plentiful abundance of dispossessed children orphaned by the collapse of the Nexonian Republic offered an attractive pool of low-cost labour. Over time, many cohorts of his “gutter rats” would come and go — some fleeing the smuggling lifestyle, others succumbing to injuries sustained while running dangerous jobs. In the years following the aftermath of the Titus Rebellion, Quentin came upon a new crop of initiates, recruiting Lance, Keyser, and Kris into his service.
A lifelong smuggler, grifter, and con-man, Quentin is both a vicious pragmatist and a timorous blowhard, always willing to sacrifice his comrades to escape a bind and never given to sharing the proceeds of a job if it can be avoided. As such, it should come as no surprise that he would view children as little more than a resource to exploit for his own ends.
