Cillian Fidelis
Primus Pilus of the Tavaran Household Legions
The power of any Tetrarch is based on the strength of his household legions; and the strength of any legion relies on the leadership of its officer corps. Chief among these officers is the Primus Pilus — the “first spear” of the first maniple of the first legion. The Tavaran household legions are privileged to be led by Cillian, widely regarded as one of the greatest Primi Pili in the whole of the Tetrarchy.
Cillian’s service to the Tetrarchy began during the reign of Titus Arcadius, when he enlisted as a lowly legionnaire in the Primarch’s household legions, serving under the command of then-Legate Ultimo. Rising to the rank of Primi Ordines of the second century of the first legion, he gained notoriety as one of the most renowned and respected veterans in the whole of the Tetrarchy. But his true rise to fame came on the heels of Arcadius’ assassination. In the days following the Primarch’s demise, Cillian single-handedly put down a plot by the then-Primus Pilus to defect to the rebelling Tetrarchs’ forces. This feat elevated his stature among the legions, earning him the cognomen “Fidelis” for his expressive act of loyalty to the Titus Dynasty, even after the Primarch’s death. He was further rewarded with a promotion to Primus Pilus, fighting under Primarch Acheron’s banner in both the Nexonian Trial of Succession and the Titus Rebellion.
At the end of the Siege of Arsia and Ultimo’s ascension to Margrave Tetrarch, Cillian was inducted into the Tavaran Dynasty at the new Margrave Tetrarch’s request. Since then, he has diligently served Ultimo and, alongside Cassander, remains one of the Tetrarch’s oldest and dearest friends, having fought under his command for nearly half a century.
A statuesquely stoic figure, Cillian is a living personification of the ideal Precentor legionnaire. A nearly unmatched battle-hardened warrior and among the most elite veterans still in active service, his legendary and storied soldiering career is matched only by his committed fidelity to the state. It is these values that make him the subject of almost godlike veneration among not only the Tavaran legions, but all the household legions across the Tetrarchy.
